About

Bondaroff

I have been a printmaker for many years, and my subject matter has remained consistent – I make art that includes people, places and events that surround and inspire me. My prints are firmly rooted in direct experience, but they remain highly detailed and whimsical, like a snapshot of time.

I carry a sketch book, and I draw while watching performances, and while travelling. These notations may be incorporated at a later date, onto etching plates, and hand-printed at a print studio such as:  our home studio Heart Studio(Calgary Alberta and now on Galiano Island BC,) Atelier de L’Ile (Québec,) St. Michael’s Printshop (Newfoundland,) Taller Tarasco (Mexico,) Taller de Bellas Artes (Spain.)

My etchings are created by the process of Intaglio – a technique where the desired image is incised into the surface of a zinc or copper plate, by using acid to ‘bite’ into the metal. The plates are later hand-inked and printed onto paper with a printing press. When dry, I often add embroidery thread, and Japanese washi paper (chine collé.)

I would like my prints to be perceived as joyous and playful celebrations of creativity, enjoyed by children and adults alike. My drawings and paintings are often created on location, en plein air. Serving as information, visual memories for my etchings, monotypes and lithographs.
