WHAT IS AN ETCHING?

An ETCHING is an original “intaglio-gravure print, “made by drawing, scratching, cutting into a metal plate (usually zinc, copper or steel) using various tools, acids, or electrolytes. The etched image is hand-printed, using oil-based printing inks, onto 100 % acid-free ‘rag’ paper, by means of a ‘printing press.’

By re-inking the plate, multiple copies of the etched image can be hand-printed onto other sheets of paper, creating an edition of Intaglio, Original Prints.
