“WHAT IS A LITHOGRAPH?”
Lithography relies on the principle that water and grease do not mix.
Limestone is the traditional printing surface. An image is drawn or brushed onto the stone, using oily, water-resistant drawing tools, and then etched with a mild acid. The image is raised, whereas with intaglio, the image is incised into the plate. Oily ink is rolled onto the moistened stone. and transferred onto dry paper using a lithography press.
